why we love her

Fiona wasn't part of our original breeding plans—she became part of our family.

After being abandoned in our neighborhood, Fi found a safe, loving home with us. Her gentle temperament, intelligence, and affectionate personality quickly made her a cherished member of our family. We completed Embark DNA and health screening to better understand her unique genetic background and ensure we could make informed decisions about her future.

Before we realized she was in season, Fi was naturally bred by our registered Toy Poodle, Ozzy. While unexpected, her first litter has exceeded every expectation. She has proven to be an attentive, patient, and devoted mother, raising confident, healthy puppies with exceptional care.

Genetic profile

Her DNA profile reflects a unique blend of small companion breeds, with Chihuahua (25.8%) as her largest identified breed, along with contributions from Pomeranian, Rat Terrier, Dachshund, Small Poodle, Pekingese, and several other small companion breeds. More than 20% of her ancestry is genetically "unresolved," meaning it likely comes from small-breed lineages that cannot currently be identified with certainty.

health

  • ✔ Embark Breed & Health DNA Tested
  • ✔ 270+ genetic conditions screened
  • ✔ No disease-causing genetic disorders identified
  • ✔ One copy of the FGF4 (IVDD Type I) risk variant (common in several small breeds)
  • ✔ Veterinary care maintained

Because Fi carries one copy of the FGF4 variant associated with an increased risk for IVDD, we recommend that her puppies maintain a healthy body weight throughout life and avoid repeated jumping from furniture or excessive stair use. Education and prevention are important parts of responsible ownership.
